African Cup of Nations: Matchday 1

Group A
Equatorial Guinea 1-0 Libya
Senegal 1-2 Zambia

Group B
Ivory Coast 1-0 Sudan
Burkina Faso 1-2 Angola

Group C
Gabon 2-0 Niger
Morocco 1-2 Tunisia

Group D
Ghana 1-0 Botswana
Mali 1-0 Guinea

Cohosts Gabon and Equatorial Guinea both won their opening matches, something I think all neutral spectators were probably happy to see. It is always ugly when a terrible team gets into the tournament only because it is hosting and gets outclassed every game. They get in at the expense of a team that could compete, who also could have hosted. That is clearly not the case here, as Gabon posted the largest margin of victory in the first round; every other game played had a one goal margin. I don't have too much else to say about the Cup at this point, as I haven't been able to watch any games so far. It is notable that there have been no ties, every game has had at least one goal.
